Android App Development Workshop
IEEE Student Branch of Mar Baselios College of Engineering & Technology and its IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter in association with NEONA EMBEDDED LABZ, KOCHI, conducted an ANDROID APP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP on 21st September 2011. The workshop was aimed to ignite students to take up mobile application development using Android environment. Almost 85 students participated from various Engineering colleges in Kerala. The registration was opened for all due to the interest shown by other colleges though an SB level event was planned.
The workshop started at 9.30 AM with the welcome speech by Ms.ACHALA J.S (CHAIRPERSON, IEEE MBCET SB). The formal inauguration was done by Er. S. VISWANATHA RAO (SENIOR IEEE MEMBER, HOD ECE Dept. MBCET) followed by felicitation by Er. SAJAN JOSE (BRANCH COUNSELLOR, IEEE MBCET SB). The most awaited moment arrived when Mr.JERIN MICHAEL JOSE (SOFTWRE ENGINEER, NEONA EMBEDDED LABZ) was invited to take the session.
The morning session started at 10.00 AM and covered various topics such as Google android-mobile computing, Honey comb, Windows Phone 7, Nokia-Symbian v3, meego, etc. Various android versions such as android 1.5 - Cupcake, Android 1.6 - Donut, Android 2.1 – Eclair, Android 2.2 – Froyo(Frozen Yogurt), Android 2.3.3 & 2.3.4 (Ginger Bread). NFC and Google TV were introduced. The morning session continued after a short break with the concepts of Android Framework (Along with the development of android app in java, conversion of Java into Dalvik byte code.), Eclipse and Android used as emulator.
The afternoon session hands-on started at 2.00 PM where the students familiarized how to develop an android mobile application using Eclipse IDE at the Central Computing Facility, MBCET. The main purpose of the programming session was to create self reliant students who are confident to build their own android-mobile applications. The students experimented and tried developing a Text-to-Speech android application using the Eclipse IDE.
Each student was awarded with a certificate of participation and a CD containing softwares such as the Eclipse IDE, JDK and Android SDK after the session. The workshop was a great success and very well received by the participants.
The Android Application Development workshop came to an end by proposing the vote of thanks by Ms. DEEPTHI ANNA GEORGE. A memento was presented to Mr. JERIN MICHAEL JOSE (SOFTWRE ENGINEER, NEONA EMBEDDED LABZ) by Er. SAJAN JOSE (BRANCH COUNSELLOR, IEEE MBCET SB).
