This Student Branch is attached to Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology,Trivandrum which is in Kerala section under Region 10 of IEEE.

HISTORY

Our student branch was established on February 14, 2006 by Mr.G.Vijayaraghavan, former IEEE Chairperson of Kerala Section and founder & CEO of Technopark, Trivandrum.

We started our journey with 52 members and in 2008-09 it has reached 103. The significant factor is that we have members from all branches of engineering rather than just Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Affinity groups are made for inspiring minds to work together for a single mission. We also started the WIE (Women In Engineering) Affinity Group which was inaugurated on February 14, 2007 by Mrs. Beena KT, Ex-Chairperson, WIE, Kerala Section. The IEEE WIE mission is to Inspire, Encourage, Engage and Empower women. Keeping focus to this objective, we conducted WIE Care and WIE STAR.

WIE Care was a unique initiative of IEEE MBCET and it was a social activity for the under-privileged children, which was a great success and is still being conducted every year. WIE Star is the training session and initial planning conducted for students to help them reach better heights. And our student branch spearheaded this program in the Kerala section.

IEEE SOCIAL FORUM is the next important step in the growth of our student branch and it was started for social activities with around 150 members from freshers alone.

All of this played a key role in earning us the BEST STUDENT BRANCH Award in Kerala in 2008. It was awarded to our student branch for our new ideas and commendable activities as a student branch.

We went on to co-host Argentum, silver jubilee celebrations at Trivandrum, and followed it up with a Tech Expo in which three of our innovative projects were selected. In the following year, IEEE MBCET Robotics Club bagged two prizes at the National Techfest Aaruush, Chennai. Also IEEE MBCET tied up with IYCN for youth climatic movement which is of significance today in the backdrop of the international concerns regarding global warming.

IEEE MBCET still continues to be one among the most vibrant branches in Kerala section.
